NOTE: For high wind areas, shorten roof front or cross brace down to further secure roof as shown in photograhs.
This is a digital PDF plan featuring step by step instructions for building the modern playhouse. It includes floor framing and recommendations for use as a treehouse, playhouse built on the ground, or on a playhouse platform. Plans include materials, tools, and cut list, as well as dimensions and full diagrams for each step.
Footprint is 8 feet wide x 5 feet deep, about 6 feet of headroom. The roof measures 9 feet wide x 8 feet long.
Plans are designed to work with off the shelf 8′ metal roofing, you can also use 8′ greenhouse panels.

Good Afternoon! I appreciated your video and am about to buy these plans. We have a great spot with three trees to do this, but the platform for the floor would not be able to be centered over the triangle used for support. Is it OK if one side hangs off the edge more than the other, as long as you cross brace it appropriately?
thank you!
Travis
Thank you.
Any idea of approximate cost of all materials?
Even in this covid pandemic – wood costs high.
Hi Ana, bought the plans and super excited to get everything on the list and begin. Question: Can’t seem to find picket fencing 72″ in length without the dog ears. The flat top fencing only comes in 41″, since the widest parts of the frame aren’t wider than 41″, can I just get this fencing to complete the job? Or, do you recommend I get the dog ears and just flatten them off with my chop saw?
Thanks,
kate
I want to buy this plan but only have 2 trees in the area where I’ll put the treehouse. Would it work to dig a hole and cement a post in place of the 3rd tree? I guess my concern is with a standard 4 sided post, I won’t be able to get one of the sides flush forming a triangle. Any ideas?
You can find scrap telephone poles in a variety of lengths and there are also circular fence posts of 6″+ diameter.
Curious how this worked out for you? I also have only 2 trees, purchased the plan, and want to understand the best way to cement a post (perhaps circular) into ground for 3rd tree.
Anyone have pictures / insight on this?
thanks
Josh
I am trying to purchase this plan. I cant get it to add to the cart. Any idea how to fix?
Thank you for your video! We are building a treehouse between three trees and are excited to use these plans. I just purchased the PDF and wondered if the shopping list includes the boards for the base (3 2×6 for the triangle and the two support beams). Also, can’t seem to see what size lag screws you used (1/2″ vs 3/4″? and 6″ or 8″ long?). Looks like you put two in each point of contact with the tree, is that right? Our trees are larger and have more bark, should I have a longer screw to compensate?
Thank you!
Thank you! I did not add the base because it can be between trees or on the ground. I used 6″ lags, 1/2″, two per tree. You might want to go with bigger screws (it won’t hurt). Thank you so much!

I purchased modern tree house plans. How do I view them?
Just double checking to make sure your received the plans?
